About the Workshop

Industrial dobby looms allow you to create a wide range of weave constructions and to work bigger, faster, and with less physical strain than manual floor looms. They are ideal for weavers, designers, and brands interested in doing small-scale production of artisan-quality textiles.

In this workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of operating and weaving on Piedmont Fiber Lab’s AVL Industrial Dobby Looms. We will cover sectional warping, using digital patterns, safety, and basic troubleshooting.

This workshop will is a prerequisite for renting Piedmont Fiber Lab’s Industrial Dobby Looms. It will also make you eligible to be a Fiber Lab Weaving Mentor and to work as a paid contract weaver for custom projects.

Note: This workshop will not include instruction on designing with weaving design software.

The cost of registration includes free use of Piedmont Fiber Lab’s industrial dobby looms for one week after the workshop.

About the Looms

Piedmont Fiber Lab’s AVL Industrial Dobby Looms are fully automated with push-button control and utilize powerloom technology to simulate hand weaving. The lifting motion is controlled by a standard twenty-four harness AVL Compu-Dobby®. When linked to the controlling computer, patterns can be changed in a matter of seconds.
